I
have been in your shoes and know exactly how you
feel.
I
have purchased 3 older properties in the past
and the kitchen cabinets were extremely outdated.
The
first apartment that was a 695 square foot mess.
It took a month to fix it up so it was livable.
The project of painting Kitchen cabinets was one
that kept being put off, knowing it was the biggest
job in the suite. The bullet was bit and the action
of transforming those drab outdated eyesores into
stunning and updated painted cabinets was a massive
success when I moved out 3 years later the one
thing that was most impressive was that the cabinets
looked the same as when I first painted them no
chips and no peeling paint.
The
next place was not as rundown but still outdated.
When I first walked around the home the realtor
stated that it would need new kitchen cabinets.
(Sound familiar) I looked at her and said “No,
we will just paint the kitchen cabinets".
The
words that came out of her mouth were shocking
“when people paint kitchen cabinets you
can tell that they are old cabinets and that the
paint has just been slapped on”. I just
smiled and thought you haven’t seen anything
yet.
They
were old inexpensive cabinets that had plastic
edges and plastic handles and a photographed wood
grain finish on them. By the time they were painted
and finished, using techniques of European Craftsmen
they looked amazing.
5
years later when the home was sold the same realtor
came in and said “oh good, you took my advice
and bought new kitchen cabinets” she couldn’t
believe it when I told her that they were painted
kitchen cabinets she said “no these are
bought these are not painted” through close
examination she was reassured that they were painted
cabinets and then she was really floored her when
I told her that they weren’t sprayed It
was done with a brush and roller. Still to this
day she talks about those painted cabinets.
The
next house was a work of art and not a nice work
of art. The people who owned the house before
had already Painted the kitchen cabinets and what
a mess they made. They had obviously done it themselves
and maybe had a toddler help them because it had
to be the worst painted cabinets ever in the history
of painted cabinets.
When friends came over to see the house every
one of them commented on the disgusting cabinets.
Someone even said “Man these Painted Kitchen
Cabinets look so bad they bring down the value
of your house”. The friends were right they
did look bad and only because they were painted
extremely badly.
The
cabinets were repainted using the proper methods
and the same friends couldn’t believe the
difference when the job was done professionally.
I got to thinking about the friends and Realtors
comments and how negative they were. I talked
to other people about Painted Kitchen cabinets
and a lot of the comments were the same:
or “You
can tell they are redone painted kitchen cabinets”“Painting
kitchen cabinets is a big job and it never looks good".
But
when I did paint cabinets even painted bathroom
cabinets in the mentioned homes, when the job
was done using the proper step by step method,
people were blown away with the out come.
Property
value on the homes was increased in all three
cases. In fact 2 of the homes sold with in a week
and a big factor in those sales was the kitchen
renovation. People loved them. The painted kitchen
cabinets were painted properly, they looked good
and they were durable.
This is why I decided
to put this book together, to help people just
like you with this effective but at times overwhelming
project.
The
book is written in an easy to follow step by step
system, so you can sit down with a cup of coffee
or a cold drink and be confident before you started.
There is even an area on each page for you to
take notes and jot down ideas while you’re
reading. All of the potential hazards and pitfalls
that most people experience are covered.
I
remember getting a call from one lady that was
panicking and upset because as she stated “I
just redid my kitchen and now my kitchen cabinets
have peeling paint falling off them, oh no what
did I do. Something has gone horribly wrong what
can it be. Can you paint laminate cabinets Kevin?”
Yes you can but you have to do it right.
The
book goes through all of this including all of
the different materials that kitchen Cabinets
are constructed of and the pitfalls associated
with each one. Then you are shown how to achieve
a wonderful pristine painted surface with lasting
effects.
